Edgar Rice Burroughs


    Relatively late in his career, Burroughs began corresponding with scientists to learn all that was known about the planet Venus. Provided with these ideas, he started a new series on Venus.

    The hero of the Venus series (Carson Napier) was named for a real person, a former British army officer who was with Burroughs at Fort Grant, Arizona in 1896. Together they formed the "May Have Seen Better Days" club.
    There were five books in this series, the last of which was published in hardback (with two other short tales) in 1964 as Tales of Three Planets. The paperback editions regularly published the last story under its own title. In order of publication, they are:
